MEC is recognized with Entrepreneurial Award from Wisconsin 75
Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. (MEC) attended the annual Wisconsin 75 Appreciation Breakfast at Pier Wisconsin in Milwaukee on Tuesday, September 28th where recipients of the 2010 Distinguished Performer Awards were recognized. MEC was awarded the 2010 Distinguished Entrepreneurial Award.
The Wisconsin 75 is a group of the state’s largest privately held companies, compiled by accounting and business consulting firm Deloitte. MEC is ranked 57th this year, up from 61st last year. The Wisconsin 75 recognizes more than just revenue – the program recognizes business contributions to the communities in which they are located, the people who build the business and the overall Wisconsin economy of which they are a part.
Robert D. Kamphuis, Chairman, President & CEO of Mayville Engineering Company spoke to the group at the award ceremony, “Entrepreneurship is largely defined with the action words, ‘Innovation and Transformation’. Up until 9 years ago, MEC was focused on light fabrications and assemblies for the computer and peripheral markets. The entire market was largely off shored, leaving a gaping hole in MEC’s revenue. MEC’s Contract Division has transformed itself into a highly successful medium to heavy fabrication shop, with new equipment, new processes and new employee skills which has allowed the business to double revenues and broaden its customer base. This division also innovated by offering a low volume, flexible manufacturing capability that supports these same customers for Prototypes and aftermarket parts, essentially covering a product’s entire Life Cycle.”
“Our Phoenix Coaters division, which started with one paint line in Berlin, WI, quadrupled in size the last five years and expanded to three facilities, the most recent of which houses the Midwest’s largest state-of-the-art coating facility. With this new 300,000 square foot building and leading edge technology, we are seeing Phoenix Coaters continue to grow at a rapid pace.”
“Two years ago, we also started up a new business in Neillsville, WI, Fabricating Specialist. This division produces formed tubes for air intake, air exhaust and for integration into our MEC Contract fabrications. This start-up has filled a void in the market and has proven to be successful in a short period of time with many opportunities for future growth.”
“Our transformations and innovations are a result of strong strategic planning and listening and reacting to our customers’ wants and needs. A strong balance sheet has allowed MEC to respond to market needs. Continuous Improvement, customer focus and an employee ownership culture has ensured our success. We have grown our workforce by almost 75% in the last 5 years to approximately 1200 employees, creating jobs in the communities surrounding our six facilities.”
“Mayville Engineering is proud of how far we’ve come, and this award is recognition that we’ve succeeded, but we know that we have to be even better tomorrow. We continue to strive for improvement, making MEC THE PLACE TO BE for our employee shareholders and customers.”
